About Flexible Packaging Atlas

What Flexible Packaging Atlas covers, who it is written for, how the site is organized and who publishes it.

Flexible Packaging Atlas is a technical resource on flexible packaging: the films, foils and laminates it is made from, the formats it takes, how its barrier and sealing properties are measured, and what it takes for a film or pouch to run well on packaging machinery.

How the site is organized

The topics follow one chain, from the material to the finished pack:

  • Materials covers polymer films, shrink films, barrier films, aluminum foil and laminates.
  • Performance covers barrier, sealing, friction and mechanical properties, and how they are tested.
  • Formats covers stand-up pouches, flow wraps, retort pouches, sachets, blisters and other pack types.
  • Machine compatibility covers what flow wrappers, VFFS machines and pouch machines need from the film or pouch.
  • Applications matches structures and formats to specific products.
  • Sustainability covers mono-material structures, recyclability and recycled content.

If you are new to the subject, start with the flexible packaging overview.

Who it is for

We write for packaging engineers, brand owners, co-packers, buyers and line staff who need to make a specific decision: which structure protects a product, which format suits a channel, or why a film that passes its data sheet still causes problems on the machine.

How we write

We explain the reasoning behind each recommendation and state the assumptions it depends on. Property values change with the grade, the supplier and the test conditions, so we describe typical behavior and do not quote figures as if they applied to every film. Treat each article as a starting point, and confirm the details for your own product with supplier data sheets, shelf-life testing and trials on your own line.

We do not publish invented figures, case studies or testimonials. When we get something wrong, we correct the article and note the change.
